Home Fellowships

“We have seen relationships develop that will last forever. We have seen hundreds of prayer requests answered and lives changed for the better. We have laughed and cried together. We have shared each other’s burdens. And maybe most important of all, we have all been touched by the working of God’s Spirit! . . .“ Quote from former home fellowship leader

What is a Home Fellowship?

“To prepare God’s people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up until we reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Ephesians 4:12-13

We accomplish this in small groups through worship, the study of God’s Word, sharing ourselves, and prayer. This is also an appropriate time to exercise gifts as the Spirit leads in decency and in order. The Home Fellowship creates a sense of family and belonging in the church body. In spirit oneness, we share in each other’s sorrows and joys.

Format of a Home Fellowship

A Home Fellowship is just as its name implies. It is a small fellowship (or gathering) of believers who meet each week at someone’s home. They pop up across the city and cater to many different sections of the Calvary Chapel Eastside church community.

The basic format of the evening is as follows:

  1. Worship time is used to
focus on the Lord as we offer ourselves as a living sacrifice. It is to be a serious time of self-examination, praise and the sharing of prayer, scripture or spiritual gifts.
  2. Teaching includes a short verse by verse Bible study taught by any mature man in the group. This is a good time for group discussion and life experiences related to the teaching.
  3. Sharing time is for getting to know one another on a more personal basis. It is a good time to share praises to answered prayer and prayer requests.
  4. Prayer concludes the evening as we have an open prayer for the needs of the body.

“Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or in deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”  Colossians 3:12-17

Want to Host or Lead a Home Fellowship?

God has directed the leadership of this church to get Home Fellowship’s going again, but we can’t do it without you. It will change the dynamics of our church for the better. Please pray about making your home available to host a Fellowship or making yourself available to teach at a Fellowship!
